You’ve realized something’s missing. You feel the emptiness. You know there’s more to life and you’re ready to take a step.
But where do you begin?
Before we take the next step,
it’s essential to understand who Allah (الله) truly is.
Allah (الله) is the unique and only true God — the Creator, Sustainer, and Master of everything that exists. He is not human, nor a force or energy. He is not part of creation, and nothing is part of Him. Allah has no partners, no equals, and no rivals. He was not born, nor does He die. He is not limited by time or space. Everything depends on Him, but He depends on no one.
Allah (الله) existed before anything was created, and He will remain forever perfect. Though He is beyond human comprehension, He has revealed enough about Himself through His names, attributes, and revelations — so that we may know Him, love Him, and worship Him with understanding and devotion.
The Qur’an describes Allah (الله) in many beautiful ways
“Say, He is Allah—One ˹and Indivisible˺; Allah—the Sustainer ˹needed by all˺. He has never had offspring, nor was He born. And there is none comparable to Him.”
— Qur’an 112:1–4
Understanding who Allah (الله) is, forms the foundation of faith in Islam.
How do I Start?
Before anything can change in your life, you have to start with Honesty.
Not with the world.
Not with social media.
Not even with your family.
But with yourself… and with Allah (الله).
Allah already knows everything about you, your thoughts, your past, your struggles. You’re not hiding anything from Him. All He wants is for you to be real with Him.
“ … Indeed, Allah would never change a people’s state ˹of favour˺ until they change their own state ˹of faith˺”
— Qur’an 13:11
Start there. Be honest in your heart. Admit your need for Him. Open your soul in private, without filters, without rehearsed words.
Because real change begins the moment you stop pretending and start turning back to the One who knows you better than you know yourself.
That’s where transformation begins.
That’s where hope returns.
That’s where your journey truly starts with Allah (الله).
Talk to Allah (الله)
You don’t need perfect words or perfect Arabic.
Talk to Allah (الله) in your own language. Allah (الله) understands every tongue, every thought, every whisper of the heart.
While Arabic is used in formal acts of worship like salah (prayer), when it comes to dua (supplication), reflection, crying out in pain or joy your own language is perfectly valid and deeply personal.
Allah (الله) says in the Qur’an:
“When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺”
— Qur’an 2:186)
You don’t have to wait for the perfect moment to speak to Allah (الله).
In the stillness of your mind, in the rush of your day, or in the quiet between thoughts, He’s there.
Share what weighs on your heart. Your worries. Your hopes. Your mistakes. Your desires. He already knows them all, yet He loves when you choose to confide in Him.
No need for eloquence. No need for ritual. Just presence. Just honesty.
Every sincere word, even unspoken, reaches Him.
Because He is closer to you than anyone else ever could be, always listening, always understanding, always nearby.
“Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ created humankind and ˹fully˺ know what their souls whisper to them, and We are closer to them than ˹their˺ jugular vein.”
— Qur’an (50:16)
Make a Simple Intention
You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to begin with a sincere intention.
In Islam, intention is not something small. It is the starting point of everything meaningful. One silent turn of the heart toward Allah (الله) is enough to open a path you never imagined.
“Actions are judged by intentions, and each person will have what they intended.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 1
And perhaps without even realizing it you’ve already made that intention.
If you are reading these words, reflecting even slightly, feeling something stir within your heart… then that is already a step toward Him. It counts. It matters. Allah (الله) sees it. And Allah (الله) knows best.
So pause, take a breath, and say within yourself:
“O Allah, I want to return to You. I want to live with purpose. I want to be sincere.”
Every change begins with a moment of truth. Let this be yours.
Reconnect with the Qur’an
The Qur’an is not just a book — it’s the living word of Allah (الله), spoken directly to us.
We often say we feel lost, overwhelmed, distracted, tired of the noise in this world. Yet the Qur’an sits, waiting. Unopened. Unheard. Forgotten. While it was never meant to decorate a shelf, it was meant to guide a life
“Surely this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives good news to the believers—who do good—that they will have a mighty reward.”
— Qur’an 17:9
The Qur’an is a mirror for the soul, a healing for wounded hearts, and a light in the deepest darkness. It speaks across time and culture, addressing all of humanity with timeless truth.
Allah (الله) speaks through it — asking the questions we avoid, offering clarity when we’re confused, and calling us gently but powerfully back to Him
“O humanity! There has come to you conclusive evidence from your Lord. And We have sent down to you a brilliant light.”
— Qur’an 4:174
Pray, Even If You Struggle
Don’t wait until you feel “perfect” to start praying.
That day may never come, and Allah (الله) never asked for perfection.
Start with whatever you can:
One prayer a day. Two sincere rak‘ahs. A quiet, trembling dua before you sleep.
Even if you feel distant. Even if you don’t have the words. Just begin.
“remember Me; I will remember you. And thank Me, and never be ungrateful.”
— Qur’an 2:152
He doesn’t need your prayer you do. Prayer is not a burden. It’s your lifeline.
It’s where healing begins. Where the heart softens. Where the soul breathes.
Cut one Sin, Just one
You don’t have to change everything overnight. Just start with one thing.
Pick a habit you know is pulling you away from Allah (الله). And let it go for His sake. It might be difficult, one step away from Sin is a step toward Him. And that step is beloved.
“Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, He will replace it with something better.”
— Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 22565
When you cut one sin, you’re making space for peace, for light, for barakah.
Start small. Start sincere.
Surround Yourself with Good Influence
Faith grows in good company. It weakens in bad ones.
Your environment is shaping you whether you realize it or not. Every friendship, every conversation, every account you follow… it’s either pulling you closer to Allah or pushing you away.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“A person follows the religion of his close friend, so let each of you look at whom he befriends.”
— Tirmidhi 2378
Are you surrounded by people who remind you of Allah or people who lead you into sin? Are your spaces feeding your soul or quietly killing it?
Don’t give Up even if You Fall
You’ll slip. You’ll forget. You might fall back into old habits.
But Allah (الله) door never closes not as long as you’re still breathing.
“…Surely Allah loves those who always turn to Him in repentance and those who purify themselves.”
— Qur’an 2:222
“Say, O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.“
— Qur’an 39:53
As long as your soul hasn’t reached your throat the gate of repentance is wide open. Until your final breath, Allah (الله) mercy outweighs your sins.
